  1. 1Why it matters

    Review one setting together

Choose a non-school account and review its privacy, location sharing, recovery and connected-app settings with the account holder. Talk about what should be visible to strangers. Ask the school where to report a lost device, account problem or suspected disclosure. Repeat the conversation at school-year transitions as devices, responsibilities and online interests change.

    Review the public trail

Check what strangers can see in your profile, location sharing, posts and connected apps. Remove unnecessary public details and unused connections. Before posting, consider whether the information reveals your school schedule or another person's private life. Practice checking an account's recovery and privacy options without putting real account details into a classroom exercise.

  2. 2Do this

    • BEFOREKeep plans private

Avoid public departure and return dates. Send plans directly to the people who need them.

    • DURINGSkip real-time clues

Consider posting after you return. Check photos for addresses, tickets and location tags.

    • AFTERAsk before tagging

Ask before posting someone's photo or location. Private messages can still be forwarded.

    Check the photo
    • Address or house number
    • Tickets or boarding pass
    • Location tag
    • School uniform

Already posted it? Change the audience, remove the location tag or take it down. Others may have seen it, so share privately next time.

  3. 3Quick check

Which account setting is useful to review together?
Should you post a friend's personal information without asking?

Choose an answer for each question.
