For business officials and finance leaders

Cyber readiness you can budget for, document and explain.

Cyber risk shows up on the business side as renewal questionnaires, vendor contracts, payment fraud attempts and recovery costs. K12 Cyber Forward helps finance and technology work from the same evidence, and lets districts ask about an optional, separately governed pool track.

What the program offers the business office

Fewer surprises at renewal. Clearer conversations all year.

Renewal preparation

Carrier-style readiness questions organized by topic, with rubric context, so answers are prepared from evidence rather than memory. Renewal guide.

Vendor agreements in view

Data privacy agreement status and renewal dates for the services your schools use, alongside the contracts the business office manages. DPA guide.

Payment fraud habits

Staff learning and campaigns on verifying unexpected payment and banking-change requests through a known channel.

Costed priorities

An improvement plan with owners and dates helps you see what the next budget cycle needs to support.

Honest about limits. Reviews are scoped and time-bounded, and nothing in the program is a coverage promise or a certification of controls.

The optional pool track

How the member-funded pool works.

Participating districts can ask about a self-insurance pool that is backed by GLET, funded by its members and governed separately from the improvement program.

Layer 1

Member-funded layer

Funded by participating members' contributions under the pool's governing documents.

Layer 2

Separately configured excess

An excess layer with its own policy status, limits, exclusions, conditions and carrier decisions.

Always

Attributable human decisions

Membership, contributions, accepted coverage, reserves, payments and claim closure are decided by named people.

Before your next renewal

A 90-60-30 rhythm that works.

A simple calendar helps finance and technology share the work.

  1. 90 days out. Ask your broker or agent for the renewal application early and compare it with last year's answers.
  2. 60 days out. Collect evidence for the controls carriers ask about most, such as MFA coverage, backups and restore tests, and training completion.
  3. 30 days out. Review answers together with the technology lead, confirm anything that changed and keep a dated copy of what was submitted.

Questions

About the pool track.

More in the full FAQ.

What is the optional pool track?

A separately governed, member-funded self-insurance pool that participating districts can ask about. It has its own membership, contribution, claims and coverage records, which remain separate from the improvement program.

Does our rubric score change our coverage or price?

No. Program participation, rubric results and review records do not bind insurance, guarantee a payment, set a price or change governing documents. Policy terms and authorized decisions control.

How do we ask about the pool?

Choose "Information about pool participation" in your participation request, or contact the program team. A GLET program contact will follow up with the relevant program information.
